Before and After

I've known that my dining room chairs have needed to be recovered for quite some time, now. Ever since one became literally unusable through milk spills and potty training accidents, really. Today, I did something about it. I stopped at the fabric store and got some beautiful striped upholstery fabric off the half-price remnants table, some batting-like foam because the gross chair's was ruined, and some good quality vinyl to prevent further ruination.

It took two hours to redo the seat on the gross chair (all that set-up and find-your-tools time, and some sanding was required to get the last few bits of foam off), but only 45 minutes to do the second. I'm halfway there and have four working chairs again! I'm really excited about that last bit. Just so you can see how sad they had become, here's the old fabric from the second chair.

I liked it in the store and now that it's on the chair I love how the cinnamon stripes set off the cherry wood. As a bonus, once I got it on the seat, I discovered that there's a subtle moiré pattern visible in the cream stripes.

*update* -- I put in The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe, last night, to pass the time while I did the other two and had them both done by the start of the big battle. Hooray for one-day projects!

Those are AWESOME! I really like them! Don't you love when you like fabric in the store, but it turns out to be perfect when you get it home? That happened to me when I was decorating downstairs. Its sweet!
