Party Hats... On!

Part of the inspiration for the theme was this lovely little book, here. For those who need a quick recap (har har) a hat peddler wanders the countryside with his wares on his head but the mischievous monkeys in the trees snitch all his caps when he isn't looking.
We had a relay race--run with your hat past the monkey to the hat rack, put two more hats on, run around the monkey (dodging attempts to snatch your hats), put the extra hats back on the hat rack, then run to tag the next person. Much giggling ensued.

With a party based on hats, you have to have a hat-shaped cake. My mom loaned me her fancy cake pan, and it went together pretty easily.

before the party:
at candle time:

Bubble blowers must be a popular gift for the under-8 crowd, because Elena got one, too. We put it together and had a lot of fun shooting bubbles at each other. Joseph was especially amazed at the sheer volume of bubbles a little green dinosaur could produce.

Thank you for coming, everyone! Those who couldn't come, we missed you so much and hope to see you again really soon!

it looks like a great time! I bet everyone had fun and Happy Birthday to special Elena! I can hardly believe she's already 3!

Oh, it does look fun! I would've MUCH rather been there than home with strep throat! Bridget still hasn't realized we missed it and I just don't have the heart to tell her! Pretty soon she's going to notice we still have Elena's present, though. I don't think I'm familiar with that book; we'll have to check it out.

It looks like Elena's whole birthday weekend was perfect.

So, I just discovered that we DO have that book, and I didn't even know it! Tess just pulled it off the bookshelf yesterday and we all enjoyed it!
